Biography
Mizou
The Unconventional interdisciplinary Artist
In 1989, Mizou was born into a family steeped in a culture of technology, where every member was either an electronic engineer, a chemical engineer, or a teacher in the fields of mathematics and physics. From an early age, she thrived amidst the surge of technological advancements, with the elements of technology deeply ingrained in her upbringing like seeds planted in fertile soil.
During her childhood, Mizou's toys were the precise electronic engineering tools belonging to her father, and her playground was the vast electronic factory filled with mechanical arms. Influenced by her parents, she delved into the fascinating world of programming during her elementary school years, unraveling the logic and charm behind numbers.
Growing up in an environment where technology intertwined with art, Mizou developed a strong interest in both. Choosing interdisciplinary fields like interactive design as her academic focus, she found herself working in pioneering tech companies like Uber, shuttling between tech hubs such as Beijing, Shenzhen, and San Francisco. Here, she immersed herself in explorations and practices spanning human-computer interaction design, big data, artificial intelligence, autonomous driving, augmented reality, and virtual reality.
Living in an era of rapid technological evolution, Mizou not only witnessed profound changes in human lifestyles brought about by technology but also conveyed her insights and experiences to the world through her personal artistic creations.
Amidst the surge of technology catalyzing monumental shifts in human lifestyles, she has embarked on her own artistic odyssey, utilizing her creations to impart her insights to the world.
During her time working in Silicon Valley, Mizou discovered that the exponential growth of electronic waste was the thriving dark side of technology. She began a series of creations using electronic waste as material.
Unlike conventional waste, electronic trash presents unique challenges. While most e-waste undergoes downcycling, a process that consumes significant energy, our approach emphasizes upcycling. We repurpose discarded electronic items, many of which hold sentimental value, thereby reclaiming their hidden potential.
Collaborative art workshops, led by Mizou, embrace an open-source ethos, inviting diverse participants—from students and programmers to rocket engineers and electronics industry professionals—to contribute their expertise and personal electronic artifacts. Together, we transcend conventional boundaries to craft artwork that embodies the spirit of creativity and innovation.
Mizou views herself not merely as an artist, but as a conceptual catalyst, inspiring others to unleash their creativity and expand their perspectives.
.After the epidemic, Mizou returned to Beijing. The ancient and rhythmic Eastern art gradually merged with the elements of electronic waste in her works.
After 2023, Mizou began to pursue her lifelong passions: art and science. She started studying physics at UCSD, delving into areas such as gravitational waves, black holes, and quantum computing. Her range of works evolved from electronic waste, in line with her academic pursuits: expanding into mysteries of mathematics, physics, the universe, time, and other human crises. She also began using AI in her creative process.
Looking ahead, Mizou will continue her exploration of unknown realms such as space, artificial intelligence, black holes, and spacetime, conveying her thoughts and insights to the world through various forms of artistic creation. She hopes that through her works, she can engage in deeper dialogues with the universe, reflecting humanity's boundless curiosity and spirit of exploration towards the unknown.
